Public Wi-Fi is not automatically unsafe
The FTC explains that widespread website encryption makes public Wi-Fi use generally safer. Look for HTTPS in the website address.
Read the address too
Encryption protects the connection. Check the actual website address before trusting a link, especially a login page sent in an unexpected message.
Your short checklist
Keep the device and browser updated. Use strong passwords and additional authentication where available. Log out after using a shared device.
