What is NavIC?
Navigation with Indian Constellation, or NavIC, is India’s independent regional satellite navigation system, developed by ISRO. Its primary service area covers India and roughly 1,500 kilometres beyond its boundary.
More than directions
The system provides positioning and timing services. Navigation services support uses such as transport, mapping and time synchronisation.
Why independence matters
ISRO explains that NavIC does not depend on another navigation system to provide positioning in its service area. It gives India a regional service under its own control.
